Fourth Place Start for Steve at Macau

After setting provisional pole in first qualifying for the Macau GP, Steve was hoping to consolidate that in the final session on Friday morning. But it all went wrong for him when the AIM Yamaha R1 developed a misfire in the early stages of the session preventing him from posting a flying lap.

Most of his opponents were able to post quicker times using qualifying tyres but although Steve, who won the race last year, was unable to capitalise on his earlier times he was still able to claim a fourth place start to Saturday’s 15-lap affair as his times from the first session were quick enough to secure his place on the grid.

“After pulling into the pits in the early stages of final qualifying the team worked on the bike changing many settings in an effort to cure the misfire and with just three minutes remaining I was able to go back out there,” said Steve.

“But at the end of my out lap the chequered flag came out curtailing my time on the track. However, on my in-lap I was up on the first two splits before coming into the pits so as long as we can solve the problem with the bike we should be ok for the race.”

The 15-lap race gets underway on Saturday at 2.50pm local time, which is around 7am in the UK.

Steve Ready for Oulton BSB

Steve missed out on the earlier races at Oulton Park as he was busy winning the World Endurance round at Albacete for Kawasaki France but he is eagerly anticipating a strong result at Oulton Park.

“Because we missed the previous races at Oulton in May we are playing catch-up as we have no set up for the AIM Yamaha R1. But I am confident we can get that sorted out quickly and then concentrate on producing a couple of strong results for the team.”

“We are now all ready for Oulton Park and fingers crossed we get a fine, dry day after all this rain, for the fans as well as ourselves. It can’t be much fun for them to be soaking wet all the time.”

The weekend kicks off on Friday where the Superbikes have two 50-minute free practise sessions followed by a third on Saturday morning. Qualifying is on Saturday at 2.45pm and racing is set for Sunday, the first 17-lap Superbike race scheduled for a 1.50pm start with leg two due on track at 4.15pm.

Steve will be having laser treatment to enhance the healing process and will obviously miss Snetterton next week but there is a slim chance he will be fit for Knockhill on July 16. Failing that it looks like Oulton Park on July 23rd. He says he is not going back on the bike until he is fully fit.

Steve would like to thank friends and fans for their support and good wishes, it is much appreciated.
