Steve crashes out of Christmas Cracker Event
Steve was hoping for a top three finish in the Christmas Cracker Shorttrack races at Scunthorpe Speedway stadium on Saturday but his plans were thwarted by the weather when he crashed out of the semi-finals as the rain played havoc with the track.
Steve was fourth in the first heat followed by a second place in both heat two and three and qualified for a front row start in the semi-final but by then the rain had begun to fall, only drizzle at first but enough to make the track treacherously slippery.
Steve was unlucky to crash on lap three of five but decided to get back in the saddle if only for a bit of practise, but the slippery surface again caught him out and off he came again.
“I was going very well in practise and also the three heats and was confident I would get through the semi-final and then do well in the final,” explained Steve. “But then it started to rain and the track was really weird. It was so slippery, like riding on a sheet of ice. I was riding on road tyres and that’s not a good idea in those conditions.
“When I crashed for the second time I decided enough was enough but I came out of it unscathed and really enjoyed myself.
“I am close to finalising my plans for 2007 and in the meantime I would like to thank everyone for their support and wish you all a happy New Year.”
