Ross-On-Wye

Last minute phone call from some mates that were out trail riding, meeting up Ross on Wye 08.30 Friday morning. Thought to myself perfect, 04:30 start in the Vito all loaded up night before. Ride all day and continue up to Oulton for BSB all weekend.

Driving down early morning from Lincolnshire the rain had been very hard and as always hoped the wet stuff stopped before my destination making the conditions perfect, of course en-route called in the “Golden Arch’s” for a cheese & bacon bagel.

Now my KTM300 won’t run without fuel and this was my unleaded for the day!

Met Anthony www.dirttrackriders.co.uk and Geoff from www.co-built.net along with another old friend and were on the trails by 09:15. To my surprise the ground was “rock-hard”, put a set of www.ripnroll.co.uk goggles on expecting the mud to be flying but only dust all day to contend with.

Ridden Wales many times before but never quite this area, some beautiful scenery, buildings and the riding changing between flat, big climbs, rocks and rivers.

Straight over the border to Monmouth and onto Abergavenny stopping for a brew in bus station car park where I gave the lovely lady 8/10 for hot milky mug coffee and put the World to rights for half hour.

The afternoon flew by with some more rocky hill climbs, some like trial sections than trails but good test and nothing my 300 2-stroke struggled with. By end of the day and 133 miles riding without crashing and no rain this has been a record breaking day on both counts!

Back in the van heading North to Cheshire…… time to treat myself to a beer, curry and early night!
